Maths Trail
Baboro trip-Woodbeat and gallery tour
We had a great time at Baboro last Tuesday.
First,we went to Nun's Island to see Woodbeat, a magical show where a man made different creatures out of wood and another man played wood instruments as he did so.There was one caterpillar like creature called Titi that made the children laugh a lot and also a creature who looked like a funny little man who strutted about and had a big deep voice. The children got to explore the set afterwards.
We then went to the museum, passing under the Spanish Arch on our way and in the museum we saw currachs and a statue of a writer called Paraic O Conaire.A lady called Alison showed us around an exhibition of childrens' illustrators - pink monsters on skates carrying cakes, princesses up on top of piles and piles of mattresses, a painting with a rubber in it that seemed to be rubbing out the rest of the painting! We went upstairs then and Alison gave us all paper and pencils and asked us to draw what happened before or after one of the pictures we had looked at. The children did wonderful work and were very well behaved all day.We were very proud of them!

Flutterella
A funny witch called Flutterella came to visit us last year at Halloween so the children decided to ask her to visit again this year.We stuck a note up on a tree inviting her and a few hours later it was gone....so she must have whooshed by quickly on her broomstick and grabbed it!She has been staying in our classroom at night and making things come to life and playing with our toys. She leaves us spooky looking things and crafty things so we can make our room look spookier. So far we 've made spiders and bats and we 're going to make pumpkins and witchy hands too.Flutterella flew on top of our bus when we went to Baboro and she was so impressed by how good the children were that she left Halloween sweets for them the next day!
Clay hedgehogs
We spoke about hedgehogs recently - how they are nocturnal creatures and about what they like to eat.We guessed how many spines they had - Chloe came very very close saying 4800 !They have between 5000 and 7000 so that was a brilliant guess..We made our own hedgehogs out of clay and stuck in lots of spines, not quite 5000 but quite a lot!
Can we balance?
We tried standing up from a chair without leaning forward or using our hands. We tried standing at a door and reaching over to get a coin without bending our knees. We also attempted to lift one leg while leaning with our shoulders against the door. All of them were impossible but we had fun trying!
Litter grabbers
We went out litter grabbing recently and did a big tidy up around our school. We also looked at where the clothes recycling bin is and at our grey and green bins and talked about what could be recycled. The children were excellent rubbish collectors!
